Last post was 7/29/2011. I am pretty sure I can not put into words the amount of excitement this past year has accrued.
After a killer car accident May 2011 I had a long hard look at life. I was 26 and not much to show for it.
....now I am a whopping 27 years old and I still don't have much to show for it BUT I'm getting there :)
Back to the car accident....
I totaled my Nissan Cube (which was a blessing...pos car that one....plus now I'm driving a BMW with a sports package.....it goes FAST).
Took some time off to recoop and moved to Destin, FL. Since then I met this guy named Kirt whose momma owns a homeless shelter in the inner city of Pensacola.
There has been many days spent on the beach, riding bikes, and exploring the South.
None of that is real exciting, right? Probably why I haven't updated yet. However, I now have an etsy store keeping me busy.
Heres the deal. Kirt's momma owns a homeless shelter called Heavenly Blessings. We get people from ALL over the United States come in looking for a place to start over. They can stay as long as they like and if they stay clean long enough we set them up in a low rent house and help them find a job/life skills in order to get back out into society. Renee (Kirts mom) refused government funding because they wanted the homeless to only be able to stay there a limited time. However, some of these people do not have the fortitude to live elsewhere successfully. They are a population who have truly fallen through the cracks. How does she run a fully functioning homeless shelter that holds up to 40 people at a time in the middle of the ghetto.
How does she do it? Well the shelter is run off of donations, of course. Donations and two little thrift stores that are run by the clients of the shelter. You can find ANYTHING you could want in these shops. I picked up some roller blades yesterday and find little trinkets constantly.
I try to help some. This is where my Etsy shop (awkwardly named Pensacola Swank) comes into play. I take little trinkets that sell for a nickle at the thrift store because its in the ghetto, upcycle/paint/beautify them and sell them for a profit that goes straight to the homeless.
Some of the clients help me pick out items that would look cute and colors they would like. They are always excited to hear of a sell in the Etsy store. To them a sell in Etsy also equals food, medications, and water. It also means we are closer to fixing the floors and doing some MUCH needed work on the place.
Profit from Pensacola Swank goes straight to the shelter. So if you don't see anything you like...maybe share it with a friend. Or if you want to see a certain color...just let me know.

I add stuff when I can...currently working on a few things to put online later today. Type in "feedingthehomeless" for a 10% off coupon. A lot of these people need God. Help me and the staff at Heavenly Blessings share that love that has been so gratefully shown to us.
